Chateau Mont Redon Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2008

Chateauneauf-du-Pape holds a special place in my heart as it was one of the places my wife and I visited when we first started dating.  Normally, wines from this area are of medium body with masses of complexity and good age-ability.  Mont Redon is one of the oldest estate in the region which owns over 100 hectares of vines in the heart of the Chateauneuf-du-pape region.  This estate isn't one of the wineries that produces cult status wines but rather produces very good to great quality wines year in year out.

The 08 is a very worth follow up to the monumental 07 vintage.  The medium bodied wine makes it beautiful to pair with a nice dinner and a group of friends.  At the moment the mataro dominates with flavours of earth red fruits and spice bouncing over licorice and crushed cranberries.  The tannins are light yet firm which suggests I should hold off for a little while before opening another.  After a while darker flavours come into play but at this stage I said I wanted to drink this lovely thing.
