Freycinet Pinot Noir 2008

Tasmania has been gaining a fine reputations for age worthy and quality wines for a while now.  Sometimes they receive negative comments for their bright acidity that a lot of the wine show on release but I only see this as a positive for extended maturation in a deep and dark cave.  The Freycinet vineyards are located near Swansea which is neighboring the Freycinet Peninsula. It always works well for the marketing department when you name the winery after the region!

Here is an image from the region.

Darkness lurks underneath, waiting to come out in a few years as this is built for the long haul. As with a lot of Tasman wine the vibrancy of the fruit is very evident.  In the past Tasmania has been a bit hit and miss with their quality but they seem to be getting better across the board.  Complexity is no issue here as there is rose petals, violets, dark cherry, walnuts and spice gently flowing over a wicked tannin structure.
